Title: Enterohepatocentrism as the basis of human psychosomatic pathology

Abstract

The interplay between genetic factors and changing environmental conditions determines the nature of intra-organ relationships, while the coordinated functional activity of all organs and systems maintaining the body's homeostasis, the coherence of processes occurring within it as a whole, defines the biological integrity of a person – their health. The 'gut-liver axis' refers to the bidirectional communication between the gut, its microbiome, and the liver. Metabolites produced by the gut microbiome are linked to the liver through the systemic circulation; the portal circulation influences not only the gut, maintaining immune status, intestinal epithelial barrier integrity, and metabolic processes, but also the 'health' of the liver. The emergence of dysbiotic changes, leaky gut syndrome, and liver dysfunction contribute to the formation of pathogenetically related unfavorable axes for other organs such as the 'Gut-Liver-Brain,' 'Gut-Liver-Kidney,' 'Gut-Liver-Heart,' and 'Gut-Liver-Lungs,' leading to the development of chronic psychosomatic conditions. The proposed conceptual positions about the liver, as the main organ largely determining the metabolic stability of homeostasis, have allowed us to formulate the concept of 'Enterohepatocentrism' (our term).
