Abstract

Assistive technology is a collective term that refers to assistive and adaptive devices for children with developmental disabilities and people with disabilities. The use of assistive technology in working with children with disabilities and people with disabilities makes their learning process and the performance of daily activities easier. In order for the selection, purchase and use of assistive technology to be adequate, the knowledge and experience of experts is necessary. For the purposes of the thesis, an online survey was conducted for experts in Bosnia and Herzegovina who through their work had the opportunity to use and apply assistive technology. The research participants (N=23) were educational rehabilitators, speech therapists, teachers, pedagogues, physiotherapists and nurse. The online questionnaire consists of 33 open and closed questions. The obtained data were processed using quantitative ang qualitative data processing methods. The aim of the research was to examine experts in Bosnia and Herzegovina about their experience with the use of assistive technology, their knowledge and attitudes, and what challenges they encounter during their work.  The results indicate that assistive technology has not been used for a long time in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that experts encounter numerous challenges when using it, such as financial problems, deficiency of technical support and difficulties in cooperating with parents.
